TikTok takes up residence in The Sorting Office in Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock. The new office boasts over 11,000sqm of SAS metal ceiling solutions, with a combination of standard and bespoke products.
The building, designed by Perkins + Will, creates an engaging and attractive work environment for employees by incorporating natural light, bold colours, and distinctive ceiling solutions.
The striking use of colour throughout the building breaks away from the muted office designs we’re so used to seeing, reflecting the client’s core mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. Above work areas, vibrant SAS130 Mesh rafts have been installed, each uniquely shaped, sized and polyester powder coated to complement the space below. These eye-catching rafts extend through corridors and walkways, integrating a range of building services while adding a playful touch of visual interest.
Across the open-plan office layout, SAS330 rafts with large format panels provide class A acoustic absorption with fully integrated, bespoke lighting troughs to accommodate third party lighting. In different areas of the space, these rafts have been layered with the vibrant SAS130 mesh rafts to deliver an engaging alternative ceiling solution.
Throughout the canteen seating areas, a bespoke double-lattice ceiling was created using our SAS740 linear solution. Finished in Light Oak from the WoodTones sublimation range, the system adds striking visual depth to the space while seamlessly integrating a variety of building services. Initially, timber was considered for this area, however, timber presents several challenges, including inconsistencies in grain and colour, susceptibility to warping, and limitations in achieving the required fire rating. As a result, SAS740 was chosen as an alternative, delivering a consistent, high-quality finish that successfully replicated the visual appeal of timber. Additionally, SAS740 provides superior fire performance, reduced system weight, and enhanced long-term stability.
Above the breakout and meeting areas, a hybrid configuration of SAS740 and SAS330, finished in RAL Silk Grey, creates a unique coffered ceiling look. The SAS740 profiles with integrated SAS740i lighting form the main ceiling grid, while SAS330 fine mesh tiles are strategically positioned above talking zones to enhance both sound reflection and visual texture.
SAS500 WoodTones baffles, SAS600 rafts, and SAS740i lighting create a distinctive ceiling above lounge and pairing spaces. Finished in bright white PPC, the SAS600 rafts, paired with linear lighting, deliver a luminous ceiling effect that helps channel natural light from the central atrium. Nestled between these rafts, SAS500 baffles in Light Oak from the SAS WoodTones range introduce a warm, natural finish that complements the furniture below.
The building has been delivered to meet high sustainability and efficiency standards, including the highest rating in the green building certification process, LEED Platinum, and the new Nearly Zero Energy Buildings standard for Ireland.
The office incorporates design elements like a central atrium and diverse work and relaxation areas. The design draws inspiration from Dublin's neighbourhoods and parks, integrating biophilia and abundant natural light to create a more regenerative environment. Built to WELL-Gold standards, the space enhances workplace satisfaction and productivity.
SAS International has collaborated with the architect, main contractor, and sub-contractor for several years across a range of landmark projects in Ireland. This enduring partnership reflects the trust built through consistently delivering high-quality products, service, and support.
